In a remarkable display of community spirit and dedication, the 5th Sutton in Ashfield Scout Group has successfully raised over £2500 for the Royal British Legion Industries (RBLI). The funds were collected through their participation in The Great Tommy Sleepout 2025, along with sponsored walks and bake sale.
The Great Tommy Sleepout, an annual event aimed at raising awareness and funds for homeless veterans, saw the Explorers, Scouts and Cubs braving the elements to sleep out in March. Their commitment to the cause was evident as they endured a chilly night to highlight the challenges faced by those without a home. This event alone garnered significant donations from the local community.
In addition to the sleepout, the Group organized sponsored walks, with Explorers, Scouts and Cubs walking from Hardwick Inn back to the hut and Beavers and Squirrels walking from Teversal to the hut. These walks not only raised funds but also fostered a sense of unity and purpose among participants. The scenic routes chosen for the walks provided an enjoyable experience for all involved, further boosting the group’s fundraising efforts.
Complementing their physical endeavours, the Group also hosted a tombola and bake sale, offering a variety of treats to supporters. These were a hit, with delicious cakes, cookies, and scones attracting generous contributions. The Leaders and Scouts’ enthusiasm and hard work in preparing and selling these goodies played a crucial role in reaching their fundraising target.
The combined efforts of the 5th Sutton in Ashfield Scout Group have made a significant impact, providing much-needed support to RBLI’s initiatives for veterans. Their dedication to helping those in need serves as an inspiring example of what can be achieved through community engagement and teamwork.
The Scout Group’s achievement has been met with widespread praise, and their success in raising over £2500 for RBLI is a testament to their commitment to making a difference. As they continue to support charitable causes, the 5th Sutton in Ashfield Scout Group remains a shining beacon of hope and compassion in their community.
